Questions concerning my IR(insulin resistance) diet and excercise plan?

Posted on Jul 24, 2010 under insulin resistance diet | 2 Comments

When i started losing weight a few months ago i weighed 333 pounds. Now im down to 295 and people say they see the difference in me. I do have a few questions to ask those of you who know about my condition(or type 2 Diabetes):

1. Is it okay if i have a snack or meal that is high on the GI(glycemic index) sometimes, sort of like treating myself for the good work?
2.Tell me if this excercise plan sounds like im doing enough: i do 100 calories on the treadmill in 5 rounds of 20 calories, 100 reps(also following the cycle of 20), and 40 crunches and i do it almost every day.
3. Is there any way to get rid of the dark patches of skin that come with my IR?

thanks for all of your help =]
Don’t think of my "treat" as candy or something. Like i had some popcorn as my treat . Also, if you know any way of fading the dark without pills that would be great, i don’t really like taking medication

Your question about a treat , reminds me of the millions that have lost weight and then put it all back on.Because who knows where you are going with this treat dessert. Everyday you should have something that you like . Watermelon is High on the glycemic index , but its load is only 4. So have a piece of Watermelon.

And I don’t think you are putting enough into exercise . Add 1 hour walking. Hee Hee , you thought we were going to be easy with you , Eh.You take care and Best of Luck
Oh, almot forgot I think they may use Retin A to fade the dark areas. But very resistant.

What is the likelihood of developing diabetes if you’re diagnosed with insulin resistance?

Posted on Jun 14, 2010 under insulin resistance diet | 2 Comments

…but begin to treat it with medicine, diet, and exercise?
Thanks Tin S. I am on Metformin, not the other meds you listed. And prior to being diagnosed, I was already doing 45-60 min of cardio 4 days a week, so I won’t have a problem keeping that up :) I’m only in my 20′s, so hopefully I’m young enough that I can make a significant difference.

You are doing the right thing to stave off or delay onset of diabetes.

I hope the meds that you take are Metformin. Actos and Avandia are killers. They cause bone fractures and heart problems.

All three : Meds. , diet, and exercise are important. But I think that exercise is of greatest importance to prevent diabetes. Plus it lowers Glucose levels , lowers Cholesterol and Blood pressure.

If you fail to do anything I say you will be diabetic within 10 years.

Good luck

Weight loss with pcos, hysterectomy, insulin resistance…?

Posted on Feb 19, 2010 under insulin resistance diet | 1 Comment

I know someone who has had a difficult time losing weight due to PCOS, Hysterectomy and Insulin resistance. She has been on Metifast Diet and just recently joined the gym. She is in her mid 40s. She has sometimes 2 meals at a time due to waking up later. She also just had elbow surgery so she is on this crazy schedule, unfortunately, that makes her wake up every 4 hours with energy and she can’t go back to sleep.

So if you were to have some suggestions…what would you suggest?

Insulin resistance and vegetarian?

Posted on Feb 10, 2010 under insulin resistance diet | 1 Comment

Can you be a vegetarian who is trying to control their insulin resistance? I understand protein is a part of a vegetarian diet, but for insulin resistant people their amount of carbohydrates have to be controlled.

Is there anyone who is both?

Although being insulin resistant isn’t quite like being diabetic, the idea is to watch your carbs carefully. Lower-carb eating and vegetarianism don’t mix well because it’s very limiting. You need to minimize your intake of bread, potatoes, rice, fruit, starchy veggies, and sweets. You’ll need to put your focus on eggs, tofu, beans and lentils (watch the quantities), and green leafy veggies. Are you open to eating fish or albacore tuna? That would help.
