Any women with PCOS- taking Metformin also for insulin resistance?
Posted on Oct 14, 2009 under pcos insulin resistance | 1 CommentI would like to hear some feedback from any women who are taking Metformin or who have taking it. I have just been diagnosed with PCOS and my doctor would like to start me on Metformin and BC.
Do you get sick? has there been success? How does it make you feel?
Thank you now for your responses to this matter.
Hello! I also have PCOS and I am currently taking Metformin at a dose of 1500 per day. I was on BC before but my body didn’t take the treatment well. It’s usually ordered in order to at least help regulate our cycles. With Metformin, it’s usually ordered for PCOS women because of insulin resistance. Many PCOS women are insulin resistant and it is also the cause of many of our symptoms.
When I first started it, I had to go to the bathroom every now and then. It also made me feel so tired and lazy. But after a while, I have adjusted well to it. I take it after meals to minimize the GI effects. Now, I can’t live without it. If I don’t take it, my body would trigger me to eat and eat. It’s really not so bad especially if you start the dose low and gradually increase it to the desired dose. Perhaps your doctor will order the same thing. Hope this helps!
