Adderall for weight loss and anxiety?

Posted on Jun 20, 2009 under insulin resistance syndrome | 4 Comments

I'm a 17 year old female, overweight (5'6, 190lbs), and have a multitude of health problems. I suffer from migraines, allergies, anxiety/depression, poly cystic ovarian syndrome, insulin resistance and chronic fatigue syndrome. the chronic fatigue was the first thing, which led me to stop sports because i was so tired. i then gained weight (about 50 pounds in 2 years) and that's when i was diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance.

The doctor says its because of the weight, and I need to lose the weight in order to get better. But because of the fatigue, that is very hard. I eat a healthy diet and try to exercise when I am not sick. (all these things leave me with a weakened immune system, so I get colds and stuff easier). I was reading up on some stuff online about how Adderall helped someone with depression lose 50lbs. I'm sure you get where I'm going. This is pretty much a last hope for me, as I've been trying to lose the weight by diet and exercise alone since I first started to see it come on.

I was just wondering if anyone had any comments or suggestions about if it would be worth ringing up Aderall in a discussion with my doctor, or any helpful ideas.

Thanks!

It never hurts to talk to your doctor about possible treatments, but adderall is a controlled substance so it is hard to get. My son has ADD and this was the first drug he tried and it works great for him. I have noticed that when we take him off of it he gains around 15 lbs, and will lose it when we put him back on it (we take him off his meds during the summer months when he is not in school). Anyway, you should definately talk to your doctor. It cant hurt, the worst he can say is no and then you are no better off than you are now.

Adderall is a highly addictive amphetamine used for people with ADD. This is not something you could just use on a recreational basis without consequences. Since you already have health problems this drug could be potentially fatal to you!! Definitely do not take any medication that is not prescribed by a doctor!

No doctor with an ethics whatsoever would prescribe speed for weight loss. you are going to have to do this the old fashioned way. Eat less. Exercise more.

I ended up here completely by accident, but after seeing your list of symptoms, I don't think I could live with myself if I didn't point you in the direction of:

    http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/frequent-dose-chelation/
    http://www.noamalgam.com/

I'd bet money your life will be better if you poke around at these places.

With regard to your question… the use of Adderall and things like it for weight loss was fairly common back in the day, but fell way out of fashion and would be considered medically unethical by most people these days. Adderall improves a lot of people's lives, but it's gonna do everything it's gonna do when you take it, regardless of what you're taking it for; it doesn't care that you're just taking it to lose weight, it's still gonna change your personality and your mind, and it's still gonna be addictive as hell. If you live in some place with a modern medical system, there is no chance at all that your doctor will get behind this idea.

Anyway, I hope you have some luck with those links I provided; they changed my life.
