Metabolic EMERGENCY!!?

Posted on Jun 12, 2009 under insulin resistance symptoms | 4 Comments

I think I may have insulin resistance or some kind of metabolic problem. Here are my symptoms:

I can gain weight rapidly eating a normal amount of calories (2,000 or lower) even though I exercise EVERYDAY! I can gain 10 pounds in a week if I'm not extremely careful.. Its very hard for me to lose weight, in order to lose I usually have to eat the amount of calories an anorexic would (800 and below) but then I gain it all back when I eat normally. I have an extremely hard time maintaining my weight.

I have a history of ovarian cysts. I was thinking maybe I have Polycystic ovary syndrome. I had my thyroid checked and it was normal. I am not a sedentary person either.

I have been this way since I was 14. I am 18 now.

Purging is usually the only way I can fight immediate weight gain. If I eat even a little more than I should I can gain up to 3 POUNDS overnight. I am not kidding. I cant purge anymore though, I need to stop.

Does anyone else on here have this problem? What do you think is wrong with me and how do you keep the weight off if you do have this problem? Are their treatments/medications for this?

the problem is that you arent eating enough. i know that sounds so strange… but its true. i just learned about this. eating a "regular" diet (based on 2000 calories a day) keeps your metabolism running normally. Thats why all the cereal commercials tell you its bad to skip breakfast– thats what starts your metabolism for the day. And its very true– when anorexic people start eating normally again, they blow up like a balloon, because all that time spent not eating slowed down their metabolism.

here is my advice to you: it isnt going to happen overnight. It will take quite some time actually, but i think you'll be happy with the end result. Start eating normally, but nutritionally. I suggest you join Jenny Craig. It isn't too expensive, and the food is actually really good. This will help you learn exactly how big your portions are supposed to be and how often to eat. You may actually gain weight at first, but don't get discouraged! Keep at it, and excercise regularly just like you do now. Soon the weight will start diminishing and your metabolism will regulate. Eventually you can wean yourself off the Jenny Craig food and start eating regular food. But remember to eat the same size portions and dont skip meals regularly! And definitely stop purging. All that does is starve your body of the nutrients it needs, and it erodes at your esophagus and the enamel on your teeth. You can be thin and still be healthy. Most importantly, have patience. Good luck!
Hope this helped!

I feel sorry for you, really. I dunno what you have. But, couldn't you go to the doctor and ask him/her about it? I think they could help a whole lot.

Doing crash diets is hard on your body. all you need to do is eat more healthy. get alot of intake on your fruits, veggies, water and stay active you should Look into “Strip that fat diet system” One of the things I like about this system is how you can create your own diet using their STF Diet Creation tool. There are thousands of different two week diet combinations that you can create and loss up to 10pds of pure fat. It’s important to remember that fat deposited in your midsection is as much of a health risk as increasing total body weight. it has alot of healthy diet plans. You will love it !!!!

my sister and mother both used Jenny Craig and it worked amazingly for them. I know all about the metabolism stuff from school.
