Neeed to know about PCOS and pregnancy?

Posted on May 07, 2009 under insulin resistance syndrome | 2 Comments

Last month I was diagnosed with PCOS (Poly cystic ovary syndrome), I was prescribed Metformin to help out with insulin resistance. I do not have diabetes and am not over weight. Does anyone else know if this pill helps with pregnancy or will I more than likely be prescribed a fertility pill?

I have PCOS too! I had a miscarriage last year and was told that it was because of my PCOS and that I would probably never be able to succesfully carry to full term. But just before I had gotten pregnant I was told that I would never be able to get pregnant. Just going off of my own experience with it I dont think doctors are very knowledgable with patients who have been diagnosed with PCOS. At least in my area they have been all but sensitive and the least bit helpful.
What you need to know is that YOU CAN GET PREGNANT and CARRY TO TERM! =) it may take us a bit longer because of the irregular periods and cysts but it is possible! Like I said I got pregnant last April but sadly it ended in a miscarriage in June. Then again in november we got pregnant and according to my OBGYN we're carrying a perfectly healthy baby girl!!
Just keep your head up… If you're ttc and its not happening for you after I would say a year or so then I would talk to a dr about maybe getting some fertility treatments. Just dont lose hope and make sure that you trust your dr. That has been one of the hardest things I have found is trying to find a dr that is understanding.

My doctor prescribed me Metformin for insulin resistance also, and he warned me "Be careful, if you are not trying for a baby. These pills will make you 8 times more likely to conceive."
