The effects of diabetes type 2 that worry me?

Posted on Jan 29, 2009 under type 2 diabetes | 6 Comments

I know that all of them worry me – but I want to know if this is true.
DIABETES TYPE 2
Are these true?
1. Diabetes makes you run slower!?
2. Diabetes makes you dumber all the time!?
3. Diabetes makes you less fit???
4. Diabetes makes you die really early!?

Your question is not only very ignorant, it is rude, insensative, and insulting to all diabetics.

The answer to all your questions is NO!

Now instead of your repetitive postings of more ignorant insulting questions educate yourself.

Read all you can read on diabetes online.

Read more about diabetes and sleep apnea at Wikipedia at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_apnea

There have been studies linking sleep apnea and diabetes.

With untreated sleep apnea a person does not get the good sleep that everyone needs. You would not believe the number of people with undiagnosed sleep apnea.

A lot of people that have the symptoms of sleep apnea and are usually unaware.

All false for both types 1 and 2 as long as you manage it. I’m not well controlled, and I can have brittle periods, but I’m still here, live and kicking, and I can be pretty feisty, with an attitude that I know how to use when I’m online.

The answer to all of your questions are the same. Diabetes does not cause these effects in and of itself. Well controlled diabetes has no side effects. Poorly controlled diabetes can lead to a host of complications, including loss of fitness and early death.

Being dumber all the time is a more complex issue. If blood sugar spikes it has a similar effect to being intoxicated – this can happen with poor control. If blood sugar falls too far, then the brain will be starved and confusion can result. This state is called being ‘low’, and is caused by over-medicating with insulin. If too many lows happen over too great a timeframe, then a slight drop in intelligence can result. However, as with all the side effects of type 2 diabetes, nothing will happen to a diabetic’s intelligence if they have good control.

I do not think all above are true. If you have diabetes and you follow all your doctor tells u, I believe you will live your life easily. Control your food and exercise at least 3 times a week.

    1) Possibly
    2) No
    3) Possibly
    4) Possibly

If you do not strictly follow your diet and exercise plan, and follow doctors orders, Diabetes (Type1 OR Type 2) WILL makes you less fit and run slower. You will definitely die early if you do not take care of yourself.

Diabetes can have an effect on your brain. You are not “dumber” but your thinking IS slower. You still have the smarts, you juts can;t access them as easily.

But if you take care of the disease, maintain a proper diet (free from sugars and low in starches) and maintain a proper exercise level and maintain a normal height-to-weight ratio, then NONE of these will come true.

You can be just as healthy and as fit (and as quick minded) as any one else, and you lifespan will be be as long as a healthy person.

Diabetes cannot be cured, but it CAN be controlled!

As long as you keep in shape…non of these statements are true. We can run as fast, jump as high, and with all the new medications and knowledge, a diabetic can live as long as a person that does NOT have diabetes. Now I have a question for you….how many times are you going to ask this question, and are you trying to be funny??
