Question about glucophage/metformin….?
Posted on Nov 17, 2008 under treatment for insulin resistance | 1 CommentMy Dr. put me on glucophage in May of 2006 as treatment for insulin resistance and mild PCOS. It was intended to help me lose weight and regulate periods…which it has not. I have only had 2 periods since. Normally this wouldnt bother me but my husband and I have been ttc baby #2 since may of last year also with no luck. I have been taking 500mg once a day since I started taking it. Should I ask my Dr to up the dose? Im afraid to do that because of the UNPLEASANT side effects I already deal with. It's not everyday like it was but there are still days I have to stay close to the bathroom. What to do? I plan on talking with my Dr. at my next appointment but I would also like advice from people who have been in similar situations. Thanks in advance for the advice.
In addition to the med I excercise regularly and try to stick to a strict diebetic diet. why is this not working? ![]()
Well I am on metformin…the same…periods/weigh/ttc!
You're doctor, after 3 months of being on it and as long as it was working should have up'ed the dose! I took 500mg 2 times a day for 3 months and now i am taking 850mg 2 times a day for 6 months (till my next appointment)! So it seems to me that he is not giving you the right does and everything!!!
So in my case with having PCOS and ttc has not yet happened for me, but i see my peroids have gotten a lil' better and the weight has stayed the same, well atleast it's not going up and down all the time anymore….but you also have to remember that each women is different!
Good Luck and best wishes to the both of us! It can be a battle!
